The Honest Customer

A few days ago, I was graced by a beautiful act of honesty.

The customer informed me that she accidently left my place of employment without paying for her milk. The lady handed me a $10 bill, and told me to please charge her for the item.

I let the customer know that I greatly appreciated her honesty.  She could have easily taken the item and no one would have noticed.  However, this kind soul chose to do the right thing.  She knew that it was the wrong to take without paying for it.

This honest woman showed her child, and the world, how a Beautiful Human acts.

 Planting Positive Seeds
In order to transform our world, it starts with our children.  They are our future--our hope for humanity.  It is time to see them as a special gift, not as a nuisance.

Children want to be seen, heard, valued, respected, and loved.  The worst thing we can do to our children is to ignore them.  We are in a sense telling them they don't matter.  And, if we harm children with our words and actions, we are only teaching them how to hurt others.

Just as a flower needs the right elements to blossom and thrive, a child is no different:

  • Give your child your undivided attention
  • Listen to your child
  • Value and treat them with respect
  • Shower them with love
  • Be a positive role model
  • Teach your child about the importance of service to others
  • Teach them to have positive character, such as being kind, helpful, compassionate,  etc.
  • Be there for your child
  • Participate in activities together
  • Inspire and empower your child
  • Be supportive and encouraging
  • Educate each other

Treating Others With Fairness

The Beautiful Human believes in fairness.

Whether we are aware or not, we all want to be treated fairly.  We know it doesn't feel good when certain people get special treatment, while others do not.  If parents favor one child over the other, they are causing harm to both children.  The favored child feels more special; the less favored child feels unimportant.  Over time, the favored child may grow up feeling entitled, while the unfavored child has to deal with a lack of self-worth and self-esteem.

In the workplace, employees want to be treated fairly.  High employee turnover, low morale, and poor job performance may be the result of unfair treatment by management.  Imagine for a moment, there are two employees: One is constantly calling out sick and is late to work everyday, while the other employee is always on-time and has only missed 3 days in 7 years.  However, the boss rarely says anything to the employee that is always late and absent from work frequently.  Instead, he yells at the reliable employee that normally shows up to work on-time, but came into work, once, 5 minutes late.  Unfortunately, this is a common example that happens far too often in the workplace.  The wise employer would treat all of his employees fairly.  This would equate to greater job performance, increased morale, and decreased employee turnover.

Fairness is something that needs to be consistently exercised in our justice system.  People of color face stricter prison sentences than whites.  Also, individuals that are famous or wealthy often receive more lenient sentences than others that commit a similar crime.  The color of someone's skin, their celebrity status, or amount of wealth should not play a role in sentencing.

There needs to be more fairness in our education system.  Wealthier areas typically receive more school funding than poorer areas.  Is it fair that a child that comes from an affluent family can receive a better education than a child from a lower income family?  All children, regardless of their family's financial status, should receive the best education possible.

Believe it or not, fairness is valued in the animal kingdom, as well.  In a Fairness Study,  two Capuchin monkeys participated in an experiment.  When the monkeys were both rewarded with a cucumber, they were fine.  However, when the monkey on the right was given a grape (the preferred food), the monkey on the left reacted negatively, throwing the cucumber at the person conducting the experiment.  The experiment showed that Capuchins want to be rewarded fairly.

The experiment teaches us that fairness is something that we should all embrace; unfair treatment should not be tolerated or accepted.

Teaching Love, Not Hate

The Beautiful Human believes in teaching their children to love one another.

"Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that."  ~Martin Luther King Jr.

Hatred is not the answer.  Nothing good can come from it.  Hatred poisons the mind and divides us.  We only have to look at human history to see how destructive hatred can be: During World War II, the Nazis wanted to exterminate all the Jewish people.  In the United States, there was an attempt to wipe out all the Native Americans.  Recently, in Charlottesville, Virginia, strong hatred by white supremacists caused an act of terrorism.  A young man with the intention to hurt and kill, drove his car into a crowd, causing death and injury.

What can cause a fellow human to want to harm and kill another?  Only an un-awakened brainwashed person would purposely want to do that.  We are not born to hate.  Hatred is something that is taught and learned.

In truth, we are spiritual beings having a human experience.  Everything is interconnected.  What we do to others, we do to ourselves, and what we fail to do for others, we fail to do for ourselves.  We are only hurting our own spiritual growth and development if we hurt another.

Love is the remedy that we are looking for.  It connects and unites us.  Love is the candle in our hearts that lights up the world.

The Beautiful Human connects to the unconditional love within.

Having Patience in an Impatient World

"Why is patience so important?  Because it makes us pay attention."  ~Paulo Coelho

The Beautiful Human exercises patience.
The wise ones that have walked before us have shared that patience is an important virtue.  However, for a great many, this positive character trait is substituted for its opposite: Impatience.

We have all had our share of being impatient from time to time.  However, when taken to the extreme, adverse consequences could result, such as abusive language, violent behavior, and road rage.

If you are running late for work, it doesn't make sense to curse the drivers on the road; they have nothing to do with you waking up late.  Weaving in and out of traffic at breakneck speeds, risking your life and the lives of others, is not worth a couple of minutes you might gain.  A thoughtful person will consider the safety of others and accept the fact that they will be late for work.

If you are planning to shop or go out to eat, it is important to note that you may have to wait in long lines.  Allow yourself extra time.  It doesn't help the situation to complain or yell at the employees.

What I have discovered from my personal experience is that impatience is a sign to slow down.  If I am being impatient and wanting things to happen fast, I have noticed that things would move much slower.  The lesson is to relax, exercise patience, and allow things to unfold naturally.

The Beautiful Human knows that the good things come to those who wait.

Having a Caring and Compassionate Heart

The Beautiful Human has a caring and compassionate heart.

This morning my fiancée and I decided to take a walk to a local restaurant for some breakfast.  However, there was a change of plans when our eyes spotted a small animal in the street.

As soon as we were close enough, we realized that it was a newborn kitten. My fiancée picked him up, holding him delicately in her hands.  I wiped some dirt from his mouth.
This precious being was tiny, furry, beautiful, and needed care.  We looked around to see if any other animals needed rescuing, but we couldn't find any.

We, then, decided to take the kitten to our residence to clean him up and find a place that could take care of him, since we were not allowed to have animals in our apartment.  My fiancée made a phone call to the San Diego Humane Society.  An employee informed her that they would take in the kitten and care for him.

When my fiancée and I walked into the shelter, we were greeted by friendly, caring individuals.  They immediately sought care for this beautiful being.  We thanked the staff for their kindness and compassion.

The Beautiful Human believes in the beauty of kindness.

Treating Others with Dignity

The Beautiful Human treats its fellow humans with dignity.

Why?  Aren't some people more deserving than others?  Shouldn't we just turn our heads away from issues, such as homelessness, inequality, injustice, a failing school system, and unfair working conditions?  After all, isn't it a dog eat dog world?  Every man for himself, right?

I believe this type of mind-set only acts to divide and hurt others.  We are suppressing human potential and progress.  We are harming our spiritual growth and connection to ourselves and each other.  Within each everyone of us is a Divine Center.  It is infinite in nature and the source of all things.

In Truth: EVERYTHING IN LIFE IS CONNECTED

If we help our fellow human beings, we are actually helping ourselves.  The same holds true if we hurt another.  With that being said, it makes sense that we should want to help each other.  Personally, I know it feels good to treat others the way I want to be treated.  This is the Golden Rule!

The Beautiful Human believes everyone should have a place to call their own.  Many people lost their homes during the housing crash.  Greedy bankers, through unethical and illegal business practices, made vast fortunes, while home owners were being thrown out on the street.  Where is the justice when bankers are bailed out for criminal behavior?  If we all come together, I believe we can fix the homelessness problem.

The Beautiful Human treats others with equality.  However, this is not the case for many.  If you are a person of color, a minority, or poor, you will be treated less favorably.  Why should the color of someone's skin or place of origin matter?  Aren't we are all human beings?  Instead of attacking or ridiculing our differences, we should celebrate them.

Recently, an appalling event took place in Greece: A young African American was beaten to death.  How can we claim to be smarter than animals when act like barbarians with no regard for others?

The Beautiful Human believes in justice for all.  There should be consequences for our behavior.  The American people experienced a great injustice when the big bankers got away with their crimes. Martin Luther King Jr. said it powerfully, "Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere."  People lose faith in the system when people of money and status get off the hook for stealing millions.  There should be a fair and just system for all.

The Beautiful Human believes that children should receive the best education possible.  We should nurture their gifts and talents.  There should not be any cutbacks being made at our public schools.  Why should only the rich receive the best education?  Why not the rest of us?  The government is supposed serve the people, not the corporations and big bankers!  Our children are our future.  It is time to restore our education system.

The Beautiful human believes that employees should be treated with dignity in the workplace.  Cutting hours and benefits, understaffing, not giving employees paid time off, expecting the employee to do the job of 2 or 3 people, or allowing the employee to be verbally abused by the customer, are all signs that an employee is not being treated with dignity and respect.  I also want to point out that the customer is also not being treated with dignity when a company understaffs.  Less employees mean less people on the sales floor and longer lines.  It is common sense that you are not going to get more with less.  You only get what you give.  The better you treat your employees the better they will serve the customers.

The Beautiful Human treats its fellow humans with dignity.
